Detailing in Driftwood

Hill Country ranchettes, wineries, and the Salt Lick corridor — all on our regular route

Driftwood isn't a town so much as a stretch of Hill Country along FM 150 — unincorporated, no city government, and built almost entirely on 5-to-50-acre ranchettes and estates rather than subdivisions. It's best known for the Salt Lick, the barbecue landmark that put Driftwood on the map, along with a cluster of wineries and event venues — Driftwood Estate Winery, Vista Brewing, the Wildflower Barn, Stonehouse Villa — that keep the two-lane roads busier on weekends than the population would suggest.

Most Driftwood properties run on a private well rather than a municipal line, and recent reporting found Hays County's wells and aquifer at their lowest levels in more than 20 years amid ongoing drought — wells that used to recover to around 500 feet after a good rain are now settling closer to 660-690 feet, and persistent drought is expected to concentrate hard minerals in that water further. None of that determines what touches your paint: a property on a stressed well gets exactly the same 0 PPM rinse as one on a brand-new line, straight from our own sealed tank.

Long caliche or gravel driveways are the norm out here, and a car parked at the end of one tends to pick up a finer, more persistent dust film than anything you'd see closer to town — exactly the kind of coating a thorough pre-rinse handles well and a dry wipe-down makes worse. Flat pricing applies the same out past the Salt Lick as it does anywhere else on the route.

Driftwood FAQ

Questions, answered.

Driftwood is pretty far out — is that too far for you?
Often not, but it depends on exactly how far. Text your address to (512) 855-3447 before booking and we'll confirm the visit rather than have you guess at checkout.
My property is on a well, not a municipal line — does that cause spotting?
Not from us — our rig carries its own sealed 0 PPM RO/DI supply, so it doesn't matter what's in your well water or how a dry spell has concentrated it. Nothing from your tap ever touches the car.
We have a long gravel or caliche driveway — is that a problem?
Not at all — the rig is fully self-contained, so there's nothing to hook up and no issue parking partway down a long drive. If anything, a longer driveway just means more dust gets a pre-rinse before we start.
Do you come out past the Salt Lick, toward the wineries and Driftwood Golf & Ranch?
Yes — that stretch of FM 150 is a regular part of our Hill Country route, not a special trip out.
Does cedar season hit harder out in Driftwood than closer to town?
Generally, yes — more tree cover means more pollen settling on anything parked outside. The same rinse-first approach in our cedar season guide applies here, just with more of it to rinse off.
Anything we need to set up for a gated ranch entrance?
Just leave the gate code on your booking. We carry our own water and power, so there's nothing else to arrange before we arrive.
