Old Enfield is the oldest and southernmost neighborhood in the Old West Austin Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 with a boundary increase in 2004. It's bounded by Windsor Road to the north, Pease Park to the east, 13th Street to the south, and MoPac to the west — part of the Pease family's original plantation, first subdivided in 1910 with later additions platted between 1914 and 1948. It's home to some of Austin's oldest colonial-style houses, including the 1853 Greek Revival mansion Woodlawn, built for Governor Elisha M. Pease, and its curvilinear streets run past small island parks at the edge of Pease Park. Schools run through AISD: Casis Elementary, O. Henry Middle, and Austin High.
With homes dating back more than a century in places, we see everything from century-old driveways to recently renovated ones, and the Pease Park-adjacent tree canopy brings heavier leaf and sap fallout than a newer subdivision. We assess each car on its own, not by the decade its house was built.
